If you still haven’t decided on your getaway for this summer… The Costa Daurada is the place for you! You can travel with the whole family, as the area offers a whole host of activities for the little ones, plus a huge range of fun possibilities on the beach or in the mountains. And let’s not forget the excellent cuisine!

Family tourism

The Costa Daurada provides endless opportunities to have a good time with the kids. In fact, the Government of Catalonia has declared Salou, Cambrils, Vila-seca, La Pineda Platja, Calafell, El Vendrell, and the Prades Mountains as Family Tourism Destinations.

With sweeping fine-sand beaches and wonderfully calm waters, the area is perfect for children to play and swim in the Mediterranean, as well as taking part in all kinds of supervised water activities. And, of course, there are water parks such as Aquopolis La Pineda and theme parks like PortAventura where fun is guaranteed!

Inland, you’ll find a spectacular natural environment where you can enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, or exploring mines and caves, whether in the Poblet Nature Park of National Interest or in the Prades Mountains.

Sports

With a mild climate almost all year round and a diverse geography, the Costa Daurada is the ideal destination for outdoor sports. Hiking enthusiasts will find numerous routes to explore on foot and marvel at the natural landscapes.

Meanwhile, cyclists will have access to more than two thousand kilometres of roads, with highlights including the road from the coast to the inland town of Mont-roig del Camp, specially designed for bicycle touring.

The villages of Siurana, El Arbolí, La Riba and Margalef are perfect for climbing, while lovers of the sea can enjoy water skiing, kitesurfing, scuba diving, and kayaking, among many other activities.

Cuisine

The Costa Daurada’s cuisine is mainly based on locally sourced turf-and-surf products, with fresh fish featuring heavily in traditional recipes. Some of the most popular dishes are calçots (green onions with romesco sauce), escalivada (roasted pepper, aubergine and onion), and xató (seafood salad served with an almond and garlic sauce).

The local winemaking tradition is another must. The Costa Daurada is home to spectacular white, red and rosé wines from Denominations of Origin such as Montsant, Tarragona, Penedès and Priorat, among others. Make sure you visit the vineyards and end with a tasting session at the traditional wineries in the area.

The olive oil of DOP Siurana or the vermouth of Reus are two other local products well worth highlighting. At the many local markets you can find these and other local products that you’ll definitely want to take back home.

Sun and sand

With more than eighty kilometres of coastline, the Costa Daurada boasts beaches for all tastes, from sweeping ones with fine sand that are perfect for families to secluded coves that are perfect for relaxation and calm. Find the one that suits you the best!

Some of the most popular beaches in the area are Playa Almadrava, Playa de Calafell, Playa de Cunit Ponent, Playa de la Llosa, Playa de la Pineda, and Playa Llarga, to name just a few. Meanwhile, if you’re looking for smaller coves, we suggest Cala Bot, Cala de la Font, Cala de les Sirenes, and Cala de la Penya Tallada. Truly gorgeous!
